What is Pilates?
Pilates is a century-old exercise method founded by Joseph Hubertus Pilates, who overcame significant health challenges in his youth. He developed a series of exercises aimed at restoring optimal health, integrating principles from ancient Greek and Roman practices. After moving to England and later to the USA, he established a studio in New York, where he taught his unique method, originally called Contrology.
Today, Pilates has evolved and is embraced by people of all fitness levels. It focuses on core strength, flexibility, and the vital connection between mind and body. The slow, controlled movements enhance stability and support the spine while promoting overall health. This holistic approach makes Pilates accessible to everyone, regardless of their fitness background.
My Style of Pilates
As a Pilates instructor, I teach traditional mat-based Pilates. This programme is designed to strengthen the core muscles while improving flexibility and overall health. My classes focus on adaptations that make these exercises accessible to all, helping to relieve pain, discomfort, and stress.
The core principles of Pilates include concentration, balance, precision, and breathing. By integrating these principles, I help students build strength and achieve better alignment, which can correct postural issues and enhance overall well-being. My goal is to ensure each participant feels empowered and confident in their body.
